Before he arrived, small demons had already carried word to the eldest and the third that the second had been dragged off by Sun Wukong with a hand on his nose.
著 reads zhe, the grip kept up. 報知 — to carry word so that someone knows it.

The old fiend was terrified. He and the third led their people out, and seeing the second come back alone they took him in among them and asked how he came to be released.
悚懼 — struck with fear. 放回 is to be let go and sent back.
總評 Commentary
The demons' intelligence works faster than their brother can walk. He is still on the road when the news reaches the cave, which tells you they had scouts watching the fight and that everyone in the mountain now knows how it ended.
The eldest is terrified rather than angry, and the distinction matters. He has already been on the wrong end of Wukong twice in this chapter and has arrived at a settled position: this monkey cannot be beaten. Everything he says from here on follows from that.
The question they ask is the interesting one. Not what happened, but how he came to be let go. Nobody is surprised he was captured. What needs explaining is that he is alive.
