A Voice Calling His Name

Good Great Sage: he flew close to Bajie's ear, put on a false voice and called: "Zhu Wuneng! Zhu Wuneng!"
假捏聲音 — to pinch up a voice that is not one's own.
Bajie was thrown into a panic: "This is bad luck. My name Wuneng was given me by the Bodhisattva Guanyin, and since I followed the Tang monk I have been called Bajie as well. How can anyone here know I am called Wuneng?"
觀世音菩薩 — Guanyin, who ordained him. 晦氣 is ill luck, the sort that hangs about a person.
Wukong's opening move is the name, and it is well chosen. Wuneng is the religious name Guanyin gave Bajie at his conversion; Bajie is the nickname the pilgrims use. Only someone from the institution that ordained him would use the first, which is why hearing it out of the dark in a demon's pond frightens him so badly.
It is also a small piece of theology working as a plot device. A religious name is a record: it says you were taken in, given vows, and entered on a list. Bajie's immediate fear is not of a ghost but of a clerk — someone official has looked him up.
And the reasoning is characteristically his. He does not wonder whether it might be his brother playing a trick, though his brother is famous for exactly this. He goes straight to bad luck, which is where he went with the unlucky-day theory sixteen hundred characters ago.
