逐句解 Line by line
那獃子舉釘鈀跑上山崖,叫道:「妖精出來,與你豬祖宗打來。」
那呆子举钉钯跑上山崖,叫道:「妖精出来,与你猪祖宗打来。」
The fool raised his muckrake, ran up the cliff and shouted: "Come out, monster, and fight your Grandfather Pig!"
祖宗 is the ancestor, a rung above the grandfather Wukong demanded earlier. Bajie is copying his brother and overbidding.
那藍旗手急報道:「大王,有一個長嘴大耳朵的和尚來了。」
那蓝旗手急报道:「大王,有一个长嘴大耳朵的和尚来了。」
The blue-flag man ran to report: "Great King, a monk with a long snout and big ears has come."
長 reads cháng — a long snout, not the zhǎng that means to grow.
Bajie has been listening. Wukong spent the opening of this chapter forcing a demon to call him grandfather, and Bajie now marches up a cliff and awards himself the title of ancestor, which is a further step up the family altar. It is the purest form of flattery: he has copied the trick without understanding what earned it.
The reply is the funniest line in the passage and it is entirely deadpan. The herald does not report a warrior, a challenger or a threat. He reports a monk with a long snout and big ears. The demons' intelligence service has looked at Bajie and described exactly what it saw.
