總評 Commentary
Hated him and pitied him at once is the whole relationship in six characters, and the novel puts the two verbs side by side without ranking them. Wukong is not conflicted in a modern psychological sense; he simply holds both, and acts on whichever is convenient.
The Dragon Flower assembly is the gathering at which Maitreya, the next Buddha, will preach when he comes. To say Bajie belongs there is to say his salvation is already settled, however he behaves in the meantime. Wukong is reminding himself that this irritating creature is a colleague in a cosmic enterprise and cannot simply be left in a pond.
Then the grievances, and they are specific rather than general: splitting the baggage, and pushing the master into using the headband spell. The first happened this chapter. The second is the one thing in the universe that can genuinely hurt Wukong, and Bajie has been known to suggest it for entertainment.
