扒起来往后飞跑,道:「爷爷,造化低了,你的徒弟不见,只有三四个妖怪站在那门首也。」
They scrambled up and ran flying back inside, saying, "Sir! Your luck has run low. Your disciples are nowhere to be seen — there are only three or four monsters standing at the gate."
造化低了 — your allotted luck has dropped. It is the same word Pilgrim used sarcastically when Bajie was told to carry the girl.
三藏問道:「怎麼模樣?」
三藏问道:「怎么模样?」
Tripitaka asked, "What did they look like?"
The third and last 模樣 of the chapter, again with 模 as mú.
The novices' report is a small masterpiece of accidental accuracy. Your disciples have vanished and there are three or four monsters at your gate. Every word of it is true, including the count, and including the vagueness about whether it is three or four.
Tripitaka's question is the right one and he asks it calmly. He has spent the whole chapter being told what things look like and drawing conclusions from it, and he is about to do it one final time.
