Now the Great Sage, up in mid-air, saw that the black vapour had grown thick and had covered over the auspicious light entirely, and he said aloud, "This is bad, this is bad!
盡情 is "to the full, without holding anything back" — the black has not merely spread over the gold, it has taken all of it.

Black vapour darkening the lucky light — is that not some fiend harming my master?
He phrases it as a question and the question is rhetorical. Pilgrim has watched the colour over his master change, and colour is evidence he trusts.
The two vapours have now met and one has won. This is the whole plot of the chapter compressed into a single visual: gold merit overlaid by black intent, seen from above by the one person who can see it.
It is worth noticing how little Pilgrim actually knows. He does not know what the black thing is, where it came from, or what it wants. He knows only that his master's light has gone out. Everything he does for the rest of the chapter follows from that one observation, and nobody on the ground will accept it as grounds for anything.
