柳蔭之下 Stand Back Under the Willows

逐句解 Line by line

霎shà時shí到dào了le門mén首shǒu，吩fēn咐fu道dào：「你nǐ們men略lüè站zhàn遠yuǎn些xiē，等děng我wǒ先xiān去qù借jiè宿sù，若ruò有yǒu方fāng便biàn處chù，著zhuó人rén來lái叫jiào你nǐ。」霎shà时shí到dào了le门mén首shǒu，吩fēn咐fu道dào：「你nǐ们men略lüè站zhàn远yuǎn些xiē，等děng我wǒ先xiān去qù借jiè宿sù，若ruò有yǒu方fāng便biàn处chù，着zhuó人rén来lái叫jiào你nǐ。」

In no time they reached the gate, and he gave his orders: "Stand off a little way, the rest of you, and let me go and ask for lodging first. If it can conveniently be done, I shall send someone out to call you."

This 著 is zhuó, the dispatching one — send a person, have somebody come. It is a different word from the zhe that has been holding actions open all chapter.

眾zhòng人rén俱jù立lì在zài柳liǔ蔭yīn之zhī下xià，惟wéi行xíng者zhě拿ná鐵tiě棒bàng，轄xiá著zhe那nà女nǚ子zǐ。众zhòng人rén俱jù立lì在zài柳liǔ荫yīn之zhī下xià，惟wéi行xíng者zhě拿ná铁tiě棒bàng，辖xiá着zhe那nà女nǚ子zǐ。

They all stood under the shade of the willows; only Pilgrim held his iron rod, keeping the girl in check.

The 著 in 轄著 is the sustained zhe. 轄 is the linchpin of a cart-wheel and so means to hold something in place by force — Pilgrim is not escorting her, he is containing her.

總評 Commentary

Tripitaka goes ahead alone because he knows what his disciples look like. It is a small, entirely practical humiliation that the book has staged before and will stage again within a few pages.

The last image is the important one. Four of them wait politely under the willows and one of them stands guard over the guest with a weapon. Pilgrim lost the argument and obeyed the order, and he has not changed his mind about a single thing.
