and Pilgrim came behind with the rod, keeping the girl in check: and so the whole party went in.
Both 著 are the sustained zhe again, and 一行 keeps 行 as xíng, a party travelling together. Pilgrim is still at the back with the rod, exactly where he was when they left the willows.
穿過了那倒塌房廊,入三層門裡,拴了馬,歇了擔。

They passed through the collapsed galleries, in through the third gate, tied up the horse and set down the load.
They walk through the ruined half to reach the sound half — past the toppled arhats and the clay Guanyin, without a word about any of it. 擔 is dàn for the last time in the chapter.
總評 Commentary
The whole party crosses from the ruin into the good monastery in a single sentence, and the narrator does not stop to look at anything. Nine lines of verse went into that wreckage and they walk straight through it.
The last detail is the one to keep. Pilgrim comes in at the back, still armed, still guarding the girl he was told to leave alone. He has obeyed every instruction and changed his mind about nothing, and the chapter ends with him in that position.
