逐句解 Line by line
“At the cudgel's second point, then the cloud must spread.”
第二指 "the second pointing." 棍子: 子 = zi. 佈雲 "to spread cloud."
The Cloud-Pushing Lad and the Mist-Spreading Lord said, “We'll spread cloud, we'll spread cloud.”
那推雲童子: 那 = nà; 童子: 子 = zǐ, a boy attendant. They say it twice, which is how everyone answers him tonight.
“At the cudgel's third point, then the thunder must peal and the lightning flash.”
棍子: 子 = zi. 雷鳴電灼 "thunder peals, lightning flashes."
The Thunder Lord and the Lightning Mother said, “At your service, at your service.”
那雷公: 那 = nà. 奉承 (fèng chéng) "at your bidding, we comply" -- the word later drifts toward flattery, and there is already a little of that in it here.
The drill goes on in tidy parallel: second point, cloud; third point, thunder and lightning. Each instruction is answered twice over by deities falling over themselves to agree.
The numbering is doing deliberate work. 第二指, 第三指 -- Wukong is rebuilding the immortal's own five-signal code, item for item, with a stick where the tablet was. He is not inventing a rival system; he has taken this one over.
