逐句解 Line by line
Friar Sand, pinching Pilgrim, murmured under his breath, “Brother, they want it so badly — and here they come praying again.”
捻著: 著 = zhe, keeping hold of the pinch. 要得緊: 得 = de, linking the verb to how much of it -- they want it badly.
Pilgrim said, “Let's give them a little.”
與他些罷: 罷 = ba at the end of a sentence, the softener that turns an order into a suggestion, and the same word later written 吧. It is not bà le, the pair 罷了 that means "and that is that" -- pypinyin reaches for bà here and is wrong.
Bajie whispered, “Where would we get any?”
那裡: 那 = nǎ, "where?" -- the questioning reading, and here a rhetorical one, since Bajie means "nowhere." 有得: 得 = dé, to be had.
Pilgrim said, “Just watch me — once I have some, you will all have some too.”
看著: 看 = kàn, 著 = zhe -- keep watching, not glance once. 都有了: 都 = dōu.
Three disciples confer in whispers while the chanting goes on outside: Friar Sand dry, Bajie flatly sceptical about where holy water is supposed to come from, Wukong serenely unbothered.
"Just watch me -- once I have some, you will all have some too" is the hinge of the entire prank, and it is funnier on a second reading than a first. Bajie asks the practical question and gets an answer that is not evasive at all. Wukong means it exactly.
