風氣頓沒 Not a Breath of Wind
風婆婆道：「不敢，不敢。」遂而沒些風氣。八戒忍不住亂嚷道：「那先生請退，令牌已響，怎麼不見一些風兒？你下來，讓我們上去。」风婆婆道：「不敢，不敢。」遂而没些风气。八戒忍不住乱嚷道：「那先生请退，令牌已响，怎么不见一些风儿？你下来，让我们上去。」

風婆婆道：「不敢，不敢。」
风婆婆道：「不敢，不敢。」
Granny Wind said, “We dare not, we dare not.”
不敢: the third tone of 敢 keeps 不 at bù. Twice, quickly.
遂而沒些風氣。
遂而没些风气。
And thereupon there was not a breath of wind.
遂而 "thereupon." 沒些風氣: 沒 = méi, not a breath of it.
八戒忍不住亂嚷道：「那先生請退，令牌已響，怎麼不見一些風兒？
八戒忍不住乱嚷道：「那先生请退，令牌已响，怎么不见一些风儿？
Bajie could not hold back and shouted out wildly, “That gentleman had better step down! The tablet has cracked — how is it we don't see the least breath of wind?
那先生: 那 = nà. 忍不住: the falling tone of 住 pulls 不 to bú. 一些風兒: 兒 = er.
你下來，讓我們上去。」
你下来，让我们上去。」
Come down, and let us go up!”
你下來，讓我們上去 "come down and let us go up" -- Bajie, who was terrified four lines ago, turning the immortal's own confidence back on him.
The reversal is complete and entirely public. The wind gods do not dare disobey, the air goes dead still, and the man on the platform has nothing.
Bajie is the one who crows loudest, which is exactly right. He panicked when the wind came and he has no idea why it stopped; he simply sees an opening and takes it. "Come down and let us go up" is the jeer of someone who thinks his side is winning without knowing how.
This also sets the rhythm for everything that follows. Tablet cracks, nothing happens, pilgrims jeer -- and the pattern repeats with cloud, and then with thunder, each cycle making the rite look emptier.
