Bajie said, "My elder brother played a trick on me.
捉弄 is exactly to play a trick on somebody, to make sport of them. Eight characters, and every one of them is accurate.
He said earlier there were no fiends in the wind and fog and no bad omens, that there was a village of good-hearted households steaming white rice and white-flour buns to feed monks.
甚 is shén, the indefinite any — no omens at all. 乾 is gān in the dry-cooked rice. He repeats the lie back almost word for word, including the buns, which is the mark of a man who has been over it in his head all the way home.
The accusation is exact. Not the general complaint of a man who feels hard done by — a verbatim recitation, down to the flour.
He is also, without knowing it, telling his master that the wind and fog were discussed and dismissed. Tripitaka raised both himself and was talked out of both, and does not connect it.
