The vanguard is given his cue by the brother who invented the post. 何不動手, why not start, is a challenge rather than an order — the same register Pilgrim used to get him to volunteer in the first place.

不認真假 is the sentence the whole trap depends on. He cannot distinguish a copy from the original — and neither, in a moment, will either of his brothers, which is the plan's real claim.

相 is xiāng, mutually — meeting each other, not the xiàng of an appearance. The decoy is doing exactly what a decoy should: fighting well enough to be worth fighting.
Bajie fails the test and the novel says so plainly, in four characters, without malice. He cannot tell true from false. Neither can anyone else here.
The pestle parries. That detail is the plan working — the copy carries the commander's own weapon and uses it properly, so nothing about the encounter feels wrong.
