行者道：「好了，師父要水吃，便是好了。等我取水去。」行者道：「好了，师父要水吃，便是好了。等我取水去。」

Pilgrim said, "Good. If the master wants water to drink, then he is well.
The reasoning is sound and the relief is audible. 好了 twice in one line is a man who has been more worried than he let on.
等我取水去。」
等我取水去。」
Let me go and fetch water."
Five characters, and the chapter turns on them.
Pilgrim's first unguarded moment. For three days he has been brisk, mocking, quoting proverbs and threatening the Ten Kings of Hell, and here he simply says twice over that things are all right.
The five-character line that follows is the most consequential sentence so far. He walks out of the sickroom to fetch water and walks into the discovery that the monastery has been losing monks.
