長老埋怨 The Master Complains

那nà長zhǎng老lǎo淚lèi眼yǎn雙shuāng垂chuí，怨yuàn他tā三sān個gè徒tú弟dì道dào：「你nǐ等děng闖chuǎng出chū禍huò來lái，卻què帶dài累lèi我wǒ在zài此cǐ受shòu罪zuì，這zhè是shì怎zěn的de起qǐ？」行xíng者zhě道dào：「且qiě休xiū報bào怨yuàn，打dǎ便biàn先xiān打dǎ我wǒ，你nǐ又yòu不bù曾céng吃chī打dǎ，倒dào轉zhuǎn嗟jiē呀ya怎zěn的de？」唐táng僧sēng道dào：「雖suī然rán不bù曾céng打dǎ，卻què也yě綁bǎng得de身shēn上shàng疼téng哩lī。」沙shā僧sēng道dào：「師shī父fù，還hái有yǒu陪péi綁bǎng的de在zài這zhè裡lǐ哩lī。」行xíng者zhě道dào：「都dōu不bú要yào嚷rǎng，再zài停tíng會huì兒er走zǒu路lù。」那nà长zhǎng老lǎo泪lèi眼yǎn双shuāng垂chuí，怨yuàn他tā三sān个gè徒tú弟dì道dào：「你nǐ等děng闯chuǎng出chū祸huò来lái，却què带dài累lèi我wǒ在zài此cǐ受shòu罪zuì，这zhè是shì怎zěn的de起qǐ？」行xíng者zhě道dào：「且qiě休xiū报bào怨yuàn，打dǎ便biàn先xiān打dǎ我wǒ，你nǐ又yòu不bù曾céng吃chī打dǎ，倒dào转zhuǎn嗟jiē呀ya怎zěn的de？」唐táng僧sēng道dào：「虽suī然rán不bù曾céng打dǎ，却què也yě绑bǎng得de身shēn上shàng疼téng哩lī。」沙shā僧sēng道dào：「师shī父fù，还hái有yǒu陪péi绑bǎng的de在zài这zhè里lǐ哩lī。」行xíng者zhě道dào：「都dōu不bú要yào嚷rǎng，再zài停tíng会huì儿er走zǒu路lù。」

那nà長zhǎng老lǎo淚lèi眼yǎn雙shuāng垂chuí，怨yuàn他tā三sān個gè徒tú弟dì道dào：「你nǐ等děng闖chuǎng出chū禍huò來lái，卻què帶dài累lèi我wǒ在zài此cǐ受shòu罪zuì，這zhè是shì怎zěn的de起qǐ？」那nà长zhǎng老lǎo泪lèi眼yǎn双shuāng垂chuí，怨yuàn他tā三sān个gè徒tú弟dì道dào：「你nǐ等děng闯chuǎng出chū祸huò来lái，却què带dài累lèi我wǒ在zài此cǐ受shòu罪zuì，这zhè是shì怎zěn的de起qǐ？」

That elder, tears streaming from both eyes, reproached his three disciples: "You have stirred up this calamity, and dragged me into suffering punishment here—how has it come to this?"

淚眼雙垂 (lèi yǎn shuāng chuí) "tears streaming from both eyes." 闖出禍來 (chuǎng chū huò lái) "to blunder into disaster." 帶累 (dàilěi) "to implicate, drag into."

行xíng者zhě道dào：「且qiě休xiū報bào怨yuàn，打dǎ便biàn先xiān打dǎ我wǒ，你nǐ又yòu不bù曾céng吃chī打dǎ，倒dào轉zhuǎn嗟jiē呀ya怎zěn的de？」行xíng者zhě道dào：「且qiě休xiū报bào怨yuàn，打dǎ便biàn先xiān打dǎ我wǒ，你nǐ又yòu不bù曾céng吃chī打dǎ，倒dào转zhuǎn嗟jiē呀ya怎zěn的de？」

The Pilgrim said, "Now, no reproaches—if there was a beating, it was I who was beaten first; you were not beaten at all, so what is there to sigh and moan about?"

且休報怨 (qiě xiū bào yuàn) "now, no complaining." 倒轉嗟呀 (dào zhuǎn jiē yā) "to turn round and sigh," 倒 (dào) "on the contrary," 嗟 (jiē) "to sigh."

唐táng僧sēng道dào：「雖suī然rán不bù曾céng打dǎ，卻què也yě綁bǎng得de身shēn上shàng疼téng哩lī。」唐táng僧sēng道dào：「虽suī然rán不bù曾céng打dǎ，却què也yě绑bǎng得de身shēn上shàng疼téng哩lī。」

The Tang Monk said, "Though I was not beaten, still my body aches with the binding."

綁得身上疼 (bǎng de shēnshang téng) "bound so that the body aches," with the degree-complement 得 (de).

沙shā僧sēng道dào：「師shī父fù，還hái有yǒu陪péi綁bǎng的de在zài這zhè裡lǐ哩lī。」沙shā僧sēng道dào：「师shī父fù，还hái有yǒu陪péi绑bǎng的de在zài这zhè里lǐ哩lī。」

Wujing said, "Master, there are those bound along with you here too."

還有陪綁的 (hái yǒu péi bǎng de) "there are also those bound alongside," 還 (hái) "also, besides"—Wujing wryly reminds the master he is not alone.

行xíng者zhě道dào：「都dōu不bú要yào嚷rǎng，再zài停tíng會huì兒er走zǒu路lù。」行xíng者zhě道dào：「都dōu不bú要yào嚷rǎng，再zài停tíng会huì儿er走zǒu路lù。」

The Pilgrim said, "All of you, stop your clamour—rest a while longer, and then we'll be on our way."

都不要嚷 (dōu bú yào rǎng) "all of you, do not clamour," 都 (dōu) "all." 再停會兒 (zài tíng huì'r) "wait a little while more," suffix 兒 (er).

總評 Commentary

The bound pilgrims squabble in the dark—Sanzang tearful and reproachful, Wukong brushing him off, Wujing dryly noting that they too hang from the pillars. The bickering is domestic comedy, but it also sets up Wukong's promise of escape: as before, the ropes and locks that hold an ordinary captive are no obstacle to him.
