Pilgrim said, "Bring it here and let me have a look."

看看, doubled, softens the verb into something casual — have a look rather than examine. Chinese still does this constantly, and it is the difference between an order and a suggestion.

The officials at once unrolled the notice and hung it under the eaves.

展開 is to unroll or spread out — the notice is a scroll, and it goes up on the same swept gallery they were preparing a moment ago.

Pilgrim and the other three stepped up and read it together.

同看, looking at it together, is a small piece of stagecraft. All four of them crowd in front of the scroll, which is how the novel gets the reader to the notice as well — you are about to read over their shoulders.

總評 Commentary

Three short beats: he asks, they hang it, everyone leans in. The pacing here is deliberately brisk because what comes next is long.

It is also a rare moment of the four of them doing something as a group rather than as a squabbling hierarchy. Nobody argues, nobody makes a joke. They are about to read an account of what has happened to this place, and the novel lines them up in front of it like an audience.
