The storyteller's closing formula, unchanged across the novel. 甚 is shén, the interrogative; 解 is jiě, to unfold or explain — the same character that untied the bell in the proverb a few hundred characters back.
The chapter ends where every chapter of this novel ends: with a man in a market square telling you to come back tomorrow. 且聽下回分解 — listen to the explanation in the next instalment — is a formula from oral storytelling that survived into print unchanged, and it is the reason these books are divided the way they are.
吉凶 is the last pair of characters before it: good fortune and bad, which is what you would ask a diviner about. The chapter that has just finished began with a lyric about seeing through form and emptiness, and it closes by promising more of the same trouble down the road.
