先天摶鑄 Forged Before Heaven Itself
敘了一會，笑了一會，娘娘問道：「大王，寶貝不曾傷損麼？」妖王道：「這寶貝乃先天摶鑄之物，如何得損？只是被那賊扯開塞口之綿，燒了豹皮包袱也。」叙了一会，笑了一会，娘娘问道：「大王，宝贝不曾伤损么？」妖王道：「这宝贝乃先天抟铸之物，如何得损？只是被那贼扯开塞口之绵，烧了豹皮包袱也。」
逐句解 Line by line
They talked a while and laughed a while, and then the Queen asked, "Great King, the treasures were not damaged, were they?"
The interrogation begins as small talk. Two parallel four-character clauses set the mood before the question lands, and the question itself is dressed as concern for his property. 一 takes yí before the falling tone of 會, twice.
The fiend king said, "These treasures were kneaded and cast before heaven itself. How could they take harm?
先天 means before the world was formed, which is the strongest claim a Daoist object can make. 得 is dé: 如何得 is the lexicalised how-could-one, not a verb with a complement hanging off it.
"It was only that the thief pulled out the cotton stopping their mouths,
He is repeating, almost word for word, what Wukong confessed to the queen earlier — the same cotton, the same pulling. 塞 is sāi, to stop up a hole.
"and burned the leopard-skin wrapper."
Seven characters of damage report. A leopard-skin bundle is what you keep something precious in if you are a monster king. 了 is the neutral le.
This is an interrogation and it does not look like one. The queen has drunk with him, laughed with him and cleared the room, and now she asks after the bells the way a wife asks whether the burglars took anything. The fiend answers at length because he is proud of them.
先天摶鑄 is the boast, and it is worth taking seriously. Before-heaven means made before the world had form, which puts the bells outside the reach of ordinary damage — and he is right, as the story will confirm. What he does not consider is that nobody has tried to damage them. Somebody has tried to steal them.
The last two segments are the fiend describing, accurately and without suspicion, the exact sequence of the theft: the cotton pulled out, the wrapper burned. He is reciting the thief's own account back to the thief.
