須到雷音 Go To The Thunderclap Monastery

地dì藏zàng早zǎo已yǐ省xǐng悟wù，即jí對duì行xíng者zhě道dào：「你nǐ兩liǎng個gè形xíng容róng如rú一yī，神shén通tōng無wú二èr，若ruò要yào辨biàn明míng，須xū到dào雷léi音yīn寺sì釋shì迦jiā如rú來lái那nà裡lǐ，方fāng得dé明míng白bái。」地dì藏zàng早zǎo已yǐ省xǐng悟wù，即jí对duì行xíng者zhě道dào：「你nǐ两liǎng个gè形xíng容róng如rú一yī，神shén通tōng无wú二èr，若ruò要yào辨biàn明míng，须xū到dào雷léi音yīn寺sì释shì迦jiā如rú来lái那nà里lǐ，方fāng得dé明míng白bái。」

Kṣitigarbha had already understood, and said at once to the Pilgrims: "You two are as one in form and countenance, and not two in spirit-power. If you would have it made plain, you must go to Śākyamuni Tathāgata at the Thunderclap Monastery, and only there will you get clarity."

形容如一: 一 stands at the end of its clause, right before the comma, so it keeps its base yī and the tone does not shift. 方得 takes dé, only then managing to.

兩liǎng個gè一yì齊qí嚷rǎng道dào：「說shuō的de是shì，說shuō的de是shì。两liǎng个gè一yì齐qí嚷rǎng道dào：「说shuō的de是shì，说shuō的de是shì。

The two of them shouted together: "Rightly said! Rightly said!

說的是 twice — and here, unusually, the doubling really is one thing said by two mouths at the same moment, which the narration marks with 一齊, together.

我wǒ和hé你nǐ西xī天tiān佛fó祖zǔ之zhī前qián折zhé辨biàn去qù。」我wǒ和hé你nǐ西xī天tiān佛fó祖zǔ之zhī前qián折zhé辨biàn去qù。」

You and I shall go and have it argued out before the Buddha Patriarch of the Western Heaven."

折辨 takes zhé — the fourth time the pair have proposed to argue it out somewhere, and the last.

那nà十shí殿diàn陰yīn君jūn送sòng出chū，謝xiè了le地dì藏zàng，回huí上shàng翠cuì雲yún宮gōng，著zhuó鬼guǐ使shǐ閉bì了le幽yōu冥míng關guān隘ài不bù題tí。那nà十shí殿diàn阴yīn君jūn送sòng出chū，谢xiè了le地dì藏zàng，回huí上shàng翠cuì云yún宫gōng，着zhuó鬼guǐ使shǐ闭bì了le幽yōu冥míng关guān隘ài不bù题tí。

The Ten Kings of the shades saw them out, thanked Kṣitigarbha, returned up to the Halcyon Cloud Palace, and had their ghost-runners close the passes of the shades — of which no more here.

著鬼使 takes zhuó again, setting somebody to a task. 閉了幽冥關隘 — they lock the passes of the shades behind the pair, which is the most eloquent verdict the underworld delivers.

總評 Commentary

Kṣitigarbha's ruling is the most precise statement of the problem anyone has managed: 形容如一，神通無二 — as one in form and countenance, not two in power. He does not say he cannot tell them apart. He says the two are indistinguishable along both of the axes anybody has thought to test, and that a different order of authority is needed.

The pair's agreement is instant and, for once, genuinely unanimous. 說的是，說的是 is the one moment in the chapter where the duplication is not sinister: both want the same thing, and both are right to want it. The impostor is walking willingly toward the only being who can expose him, which is either confidence or the compulsion of the part he is playing.

The closing detail is the sharpest. The Ten Kings escort them out, thank Kṣitigarbha, go home, and lock the gates. 閉了幽冥關隘 is a court making very sure the case cannot come back.
