洗冤解怒 All Made Whole
Line by line
The Bodhisattva told over the matter of the Tathāgata's knowing the monster.
說了一遍 — the chapter's recurring "one time through" for the last time, and for once the recital is not a plea but a report of something settled.
That idiot was delighted beyond measure, and gave thanks without end.
不盡 needs its 不 pinned at bú: a project-wide ruling lifts 盡 to jìn, a falling tone, after the automatic tone-shifting has already run on the rising-tone jǐn, so the two have to be brought back into line by hand. 十分 takes fēn; 稱 takes chēng.
Master and disciples made their thanks, and the Bodhisattva returned to the sea.
Ten characters to dismiss the figure who has been carrying this case since the previous chapter.
And they were all as before, of one accord and one mind, their wrongs washed away and their anger dissolved.
合意同心 — of one accord and one mind — answers the 二心 of the chapter's title directly. 洗冤解怒 takes jiě, to dissolve.
They thanked the people of the village cottage once more, put their baggage and horse in order, and found the high road westward.
草舍 takes shè once more. 找大路而西 — five characters, and the pilgrimage is moving again.
卻都照舊合意同心 is the sentence the chapter has been travelling toward. 同心 — one mind — set against the 二心 of the title, and 照舊, just as before, insisting that nothing has been permanently lost. The party is restored to the state it was in before chapter fifty-six.
洗冤解怒 divides the repair between the two injured parties with some precision. 冤 is Wukong's — the wrong done to him, washed away. 怒 is Tripitaka's — the anger that expelled him, dissolved. Neither has apologised to the other. A Bodhisattva has simply declared the matter closed, and the narration reports the result rather than the process.
The last two segments dispose of everything remaining in thirty-one characters: thank the hosts, pack the baggage, take the road west. After five thousand characters of tribunals the novel is visibly impatient to be moving again.
