That fine idiot pinched his fingers in a spell, shook himself once, and turned sure enough into a great pig.
著 is the marker zhe. 好獃子 is the storyteller's formula, used of him for the third time in this chapter. Narrative cannot join a recitation, so this stands apart from the description that follows.
One sentence for the transformation the entire chapter has been building towards, and it is delivered as flatly as possible. A spell pinched between the fingers, one shake, a pig.
It stands alone because the verse that follows opens with its own announcement, and prose that merely comes before a recitation is not part of it. The separation lets the eighteen characters of narrative do their work before the portrait begins.
