A second night fought to a standstill. 不分上下 is the same formula as the 不分勝負 of the chapter's opening, 分 holding at fēn, so 不 stays bù. (一 shifts to yí in 一夜, before the falling tone of 夜.) The fight has now run a day and a night without result.

Ahead of them was the mouth of his Cloud-Touching Cave on Mount Piled Thunder; the three of them, with the local god and the shadow-troops, made such a clamour as shook the ear, and it startled the Jade-Faced Princess, who called a maid to see where the shouting came from.

Both readings of 那 stand inside this one line. 那裡人嚷 takes the question word nǎ — where the noise is coming from — while the 那 ten characters earlier at 那玉面公主 is the ordinary pointing one. 諠譁 is the clamour of many voices at once; 嚷 is rǎng.

總評 Commentary

不分上下 repeats the verdict of 不分勝負 from the chapter's first fight, and the repetition is structural. Two set-piece combats have now been fought to a standstill, one in the air and one on the ground, and the fan is no nearer.

What breaks the deadlock is not a fighter but a noise. The clamour reaches the Cloud-Touching Cave and wakes the Jade-Faced Princess, who has been off the page since she was lied to two chapters ago. The chapter's turn is made by an accident of sound — exactly as Eight Rules' arrival was.
