To Find a Back Road

Tripitaka did as he was told, and the whole party slipped down off the road and settled below a hollow.
一行 is yì xíng, a party travelling together — the whole company of them. 閃 is to dodge or duck aside, quicker and more furtive than simply leaving the road.

Pilgrim said: "Brothers, you two look after the master properly. Wait while old Monkey changes himself and goes to take a look at that city, and finds a back road, and we will travel through the night."
老孫, old Sun, is Wukong's own name for himself — half boast, half affection, and untranslatable in one word. 連夜 is through the night without stopping. He is already planning like a smuggler: scout by dark, move by dark, and out before the city wakes.
總評 Commentary
This short exchange already holds every element of the solution — transformation, reconnaissance, a route chosen because nobody watches it. What Pilgrim does not yet know is that the back road will not exist, and that the way through will have to be made rather than found.
The hollow below the road is a small piece of staging that pays off later. The party is now off the highway and out of sight, which is where Pilgrim will need them to be when he comes back with an armful of stolen clothes.
