The Great Sage worked a spell of gathering and was already away on a cloud.

攝法 is a technique of drawing or gathering things in — the same character used for a regent gathering the powers of a throne. Here it is the trick that lets him leave with an armful of stolen clothes.

He turned over once more and came straight down to the edge of the hollow below the road.

Tripitaka, seeing the starlight and the bright moon, leaned out and stared, and when he saw it was Pilgrim coming up close, he called: "Disciple! Can we get past the Dharma-Destroying Kingdom?"

過得 puts between the verb and its outcome and reads de — can get past, as against cannot. It is the same shape Pilgrim used to himself at the inn window, and Tripitaka is now using it as a question.

總評 Commentary

Tripitaka has been sitting in a ditch in the dark for the whole of the last episode, and the first thing he does is lean out and ask about the road. Whatever else he is, he is not idle about the mission.

The question is also the only one he could usefully ask, and it is exactly the wrong shape for the answer. He wants to know whether they can get past. What Pilgrim has brought back is not a route but a wardrobe.
