He took his own shape, mounted a cloud and went straight to the gate of the royal palace.
原身 is one's original body, the form beneath every transformation. 踏起雲頭 is to step up onto a cloud, the ordinary way of putting it in this novel.
那國王正在睡濃之際。
那国王正在睡浓之际。
That king was just then deep in sleep.
睡濃 is sleep at its thickest, the deepest part of the night. Nine characters, and the whole of the chapter's revenge is set up by them.
The shortest passage in the chapter and the hinge of it. Everything up to here has been the pilgrims trying not to be noticed. From this line on it is Pilgrim doing something to the kingdom.
The king has not appeared once. He has been a vow, a number and a policy for eighty passages, and the first thing we learn about him as a person is that he is asleep.
