The Heavenly King said, "Child, I fathered just the four of you, brothers and sister. Where would another daughter come from?"

那 is nǎ, the questioning one — where, and asked in flat disbelief. He is repeating, to his own son, the same inventory of children he gave the court earlier in the scene. 姊妹 covers siblings of both sexes taken together, so the phrase counts the three boys and the girl as one set of four.

哪né吒zhā道dào:「父fù王wáng忘wàng了le? 哪né咤zhā道dào:「父fù王wáng忘wàng了le?

Nezha said, "Father, have you forgotten?

Five characters, and they turn the scene over. Nezha is not contradicting his father; he is telling him he has mislaid something.

那nà女nǚ兒ér原yuán是shì個gè妖yāo精jīng。 那nà女nǚ儿ér原yuán是shì个gè妖yāo精jīng。

That daughter was a fiend to begin with.

The reveal is delivered in nine characters with no build-up at all. Everything the court has been arguing about was true and false at once, and the difference is a matter of how the family was formed.

Three hundred years ago she turned monster, and on the Spirit Mountain she stole and ate the Tathagata's incense flowers and precious candles. The Tathagata sent us, father and son, with heaven's troops, and we took her.

父子 keeps 子 at zǐ, the formal pairing. 靈山, the Spirit Mountain, is Vulture Peak, the Buddha's own seat — which is where the whole journey is heading. She stole from the destination.

總評 Commentary

The father's memory fails and the son's does not, which reverses the ordinary shape of such scenes. Nezha is the one who was rebuilt out of lotus root three hundred years ago and remembers every year of it.

The theft is a nice piece of economy. What she took was not treasure but the offerings — flowers and candles — which is a crime of appetite rather than greed, and appetite is what she is still committing crimes about.
