Ranged below the hall were the Mighty Spirit God, General Fish-Belly and the Yaksha Chieftain. They rushed forward in a body and had Pilgrim tied.

is jiàng here, a general — a noun, the rank in the name 魚肚將. It is not the jiāng that shoves an object in front of its verb, which the same character was doing one line ago. 巨靈神, the Mighty Spirit God, is the champion heaven sent against Pilgrim first of all, five hundred years back, and who lost his axe in the attempt. 藥叉 renders the Sanskrit yakṣa, a class of nature spirit taken into Buddhism as a guardian. is zhe: ranged there and standing ranged.

The Gold Star said, "Heavenly King Li, do not go making trouble.

闖禍 is to blunder into disaster, to cause an incident — and it is still the ordinary word a parent uses to a child. Venus is addressing a Heavenly King as though he were being reckless in a shop.

I came with him from before the throne, bearing an edict to summon you. That rope of yours is rather heavy. Bind him too long and it will do him harm, and there will be bad feeling."

頗重 is rather heavy, and is zhòng, weighty — not the chóng that means a layer or once again. 閣氣 is to be left with a grievance, resentment lodged where it will fester. Venus is not making a legal argument at all; he is pointing out that this will be awkward.

總評 Commentary

The three who tie him up are all veterans of the war he won. The novel names them without comment and lets the reader do the arithmetic.

Venus argues on the only ground available. He cannot say the arrest is unlawful, because it may not be, so he says it will cause trouble and that the rope is too heavy — and the whole rest of the chapter runs on that kind of persuasion rather than on any kind of right.
