打禪 is to sit in Chan meditation and 搬運法 is the inner-alchemy technique of circulating the breath, which adepts used to go without food. The demon is proposing to beat a monkey by taking up a spiritual discipline.

兒子, son, keeps 兒 at full weight as ér. Calling a demon chief his son from inside the demon chief is the same insult he shouted from the top of his head a few thousand characters ago.
The demon's plan is genuinely clever and completely self-defeating. Fasting really is what these techniques are for, and a creature that can circulate its own breath can go a season without eating. He has simply not thought about who else is in there.
There is a real joke about religion buried in it. Every discipline in this book — meditation, breath circulation, the alchemical furnace, the transformations — is available to demons on exactly the same terms as to saints, and they use it for this. The novel finds that funny and never quite says it is wrong.
