Pilgrim set a fire going in the kitchen, and in a moment the whole abbey was burnt to embers and ash; and then he strode off down the road.
⚠ Four readings settle in one sentence. 觀 is guàn, the abbey — the twentieth and last in the chapter, sixteen of which are this band. 燒得煨燼 takes 得 as de, a complement of result. 拽 is yè, to drag or haul, and in 拽步 it means to stride out — the only occurrence in this chapter, and a reading sealed seven times out of seven in the last one. And 長行 keeps 長 as cháng, to travel far.

The Tang Monk got his life and thanked Vairambha; the nature made clear, the Many-Eyed Fiend was done away with.
⚠ 了 is liǎo here, not the particle le — 了性 is a Buddhist term of art, to comprehend one's own nature through to the end. It pairs with 得命, got his life, so the couplet balances a body saved against a mind cleared. And the closing four characters are the chapter heading itself: 心主遭魔幸破光 promised a Many-Eyed Fiend, and here the 多目怪 is disposed of by name. ⚠ The two lines do not rhyme — 藍 sits in 監咸 and 怪 in 皆來 — and a closing 正是 distich is not required to.
He burns it down. Nobody asks him to, nobody stops him, and the text spends four characters on it: 放了一把火, set a fire going. The building that has been described twice at length — towers, terraces, halls, a couplet on the gate advertising inner alchemy — is embers in a sentence.
It is also unmistakably an execution. The abbot has already been taken away alive to a job. Burning his house afterwards serves no purpose except that Pilgrim wants it gone, and the chapter that opened by admiring the place from the air closes by leaving it as ash. The Great Sage does not forgive property.
And then the summary couplet, which does what these always do: it hands you the chapter heading back. 多目怪 has been in the title since before the first sentence and was not spoken aloud by anybody until four-fifths of the way through. Here it is again, in the last seven characters, being disposed of.
