The two of them took hold of the two small fiends, mounted the head of the wind, worked a spell of transport, and went straight off to the south-east.

攝法 is a spell for carrying other people along with you. 東南 is the bearing the deposition gave for the Green Wave Pool. 扯著 takes zhe, the while-it-is-going-on reading, against the zhuó of setting somebody to a task five segments back.

Ah! Of them it may be said:

Three characters doing two jobs. 噫！ is a bare cry with its own stop after it, and 他那： is the announcement that hands over to the verse; the cry points forward, so the two are set on one line and open the description together. This is the last of the six announcements that introduce verse in this chapter, and one of three that are not stock formulas — the others being 見了些： in the opening pages and 真是： in front of the pagoda poem. The lyric that begins the chapter has no announcement at all.

Prince and ministers, at one sight of them mounting the wind and mist, knew at last that this master and his disciples were holy monks.

才識 — only then did they know. The couplet answers the scene at the jade steps, where the king judged the disciple by his face and was told that a man cannot be taken the measure of by looking. He has now looked at the right thing. 一見 has its 一 falling to yí before the falling tone of 見.
