The lady was overjoyed beyond measure, and bade the household servants set out a great feast in celebration.

The Chancellor said, 'Today's feast may be named the Feast of Reunion.'

總評 Commentary
The chapter gathers its dispersed family for a cascade of reunions, each sealed by an omen or a name: the grandmother dreams of a dead tree flowering (枯木開花) and magpies clamoring before her lost grandson appears; mother and son, husband and mother, are restored in turn; and the whole is crowned by the Chancellor's christening of the celebration as the 團圓會, the Feast of Reunion — the very word 團圓, 'round and complete,' that names the comic resolution of Chinese domestic drama. From the murder at the ford to this banquet, the episode has traced the full arc of Confucian restoration: the wronged avenged, the scattered gathered, the dead returned, the family made round again.
