The Eyes Restored to Sight

祝罷，就將舌尖與婆婆舔眼。

His prayer done, he licked his grandmother's eyes with the tip of his tongue.
舌尖, the tongue's tip; the cure by licking is a folk-miracle of filial power.
須臾之間，雙眼舔開，仍復如初。

In a moment the two eyes were licked open and restored as before.

The grandmother looked at the little monk and said:

'You are truly my grandson — the very image of my son Guangrui.'
形容無二, identical in form; 孫子 and 兒子 take neutral 子 (zi).

還到, to go back to — 還 is huán.

棲身, to find shelter.
又將盤纏與婆婆道：「我此去，只月餘就回。」

and giving her travelling funds besides, he said, 'I shall be gone only a month or so, then return.'
月餘, a month and more.
總評 Commentary
The restoration of the grandmother's sight is the chapter's one frank miracle, and it is worked not by a god but by filial devotion: Xuanzang prays, then licks her blind eyes open, and they are 'restored as at first.' Healing by a child's saliva or tears belongs to the folklore of extreme filiality (孝), in which the sincerity of a son's love commands a power beyond nature. It answers, point for point, the grandmother's grief-blindness of the previous passage — she wept herself blind for a lost son, and a found grandson licks her whole. Provided for and lodged, she is set safely aside while the reckoning proceeds.
