卻說那國王耽病設朝,請唐僧見了,即命眾官快往會同館參拜神僧孫長老取藥去。

Now the king, sick as he was, held court, received the Tang Monk, and at once ordered his officials to hurry to the Hostel of Meeting, pay their respects to the divine monk Elder Sun, and fetch the medicine.
卻說 is the storyteller's "meanwhile", used to swing the scene across. 參 keeps cān, to wait upon — a reigning king is ordering his whole court to go and pay their respects to a monkey. 長 is zhǎng in 長老, senior in standing.
One sentence carries the whole scene change. The king is well enough to hold court for the first time in the chapter, receives the Tang Monk, and sends his officials running for the medicine — and all of this before you have been told whether the night's work produced anything worth fetching.
The wording of the order repays a moment. A reigning king is instructing his court to go and prostrate themselves before Pilgrim by title — and the title was invented by that same court on the strength of a pulse reading taken through a window.
