逐句解 Line by line
Pilgrim laughed and said, "Good idiot — there is something in your argument after all.
論頭 is the everyday phrase for the makings of an argument, and 好獃子 — good idiot — is about as close to praise as Eight Rules ever gets. 倒 is dào, flagging something turning out contrary to expectation.
"Since you put it so, the two of you guard here, and let Old Sun go and ask him his name — so that the Golden Sage Palace may be got back to court for the king."
The undertaking made at the banquet turns into an order of battle, and everything the chapter has been arranging sits in this one sentence. 號 is hào, a title or name, and 朝 is cháo, the court.
Eight Rules said, "Go if you must go — only do not give us away."
The last thing Eight Rules says in this chapter is a request not to be named to a demon. 供 is gòng, to give somebody up under questioning, not the gōng of supplying goods.
Pilgrim held his head high and did not answer. He sprang up in an auspicious light and leapt aloft.
昂然不答 — head high, no reply — is the chapter's last word on Eight Rules, and it is delivered by silence. 將 is jiāng, pushing the verb along in 跳將上去.
"Good idiot — there is something in your argument after all." It is about as close to praise as Eight Rules is given anywhere in this chapter, and it is given for thinking.
