總評 Commentary

The officials now have to correct their own king about rootless water, using the same words Pilgrim used to correct them. The correction travels down the chain intact, while the one piece of information that actually matters never enters it at all.

The king's response is to summon the officer of the day and issue a decree: send for the ritual masters and pray for rain. An entire kingdom is now being put to the trouble of a rain ceremony so that three pills of soot and horse urine can go down.

And then the storyteller drops it. He raises a royal proclamation and walks away from it in a single breath, because the rain is not going to come from any ceremony and everybody reading already knows who it will come from.
