A Dream Sent to the Queen

Commentary
The tablet’s logic is completed: it is the one thing the impostor could not reproduce, and he covered its absence with a story — that the rain-adept had stolen it — so that its reappearance in the prince’s hands becomes proof against the seeming father. “Seeing the thing, to think of the person” is the exact mechanism of recognition the plot requires.
The ghost then departs to plant a matching dream in the queen, coordinating mother, son, and pilgrims into a single design — the murdered king orchestrating his own vindication from beyond the grave. Tripitaka’s assent closes the long dream-audience and hands the action forward to Wukong, whose waking plan will open the chapter’s next movement.
