攝眾入洞 Seizing the Company into the Cave
Line by line
The fiend was fierce beyond measure: wielding his precious sword, its meteor-swift passes came rolling in, until Sha Monk, worn weak and hard put to parry, turned to flee.
流星的解數 (liú xīng de xiè shù) is sword-work coming in as fast as falling stars, 解數 being the same set of fighting moves Pilgrim showed off at the top of the chapter -- the storyteller pays the demon the compliment of the same word. 戰得軟弱難搪 (zhàn de ruǎn ruò nán táng), "fought until he was weak and could hardly fend it off"; 搪 (táng) is to parry.
At once the fiend pinned the staff fast, swung his great hand around, seized Sha Monk and clamped him under his left arm; with his right hand he plucked Tripitaka from the horse, hooked the baggage on his toe-tips, and, opening his mouth, gripped the horse's mane in his teeth; then, working a spell of snatching, he bore them all off on a gust of wind into the Lotus-Flower Cave, and cried in a great voice: "Brother!
Read this sentence as choreography and it is grotesque and funny at once: Sha Monk clamped under one arm (挾在左脅下, "under the left flank"), Tripitaka lifted off with the other hand, the luggage hooked on 腳尖兒 (jiǎo jiān er), the toe-tips, and the horse's mane gripped in his teeth. Four limbs, four captives. 攝法 (shè fǎ) is a fetching-spell, magic for moving things you have hold of, and 蓮花洞 is the Lotus-Flower Cave, the lair the rest of the episode will revolve around.
"I've caught all these monks and brought them here."
都 (dōu), "the whole lot." The younger brother announces his haul, and for the second time in the chapter he is about to be told he has got it wrong.
Sha Monk is overmatched in a few strokes. The fiend pins his staff and then, in one continuous and faintly octopus-like motion, sweeps up the entire party: Sha Monk under an arm, Tripitaka off the horse in the other hand, luggage hooked on his toes, horse's mane in his teeth. The catalogue of grasping limbs is grimly funny and completely efficient -- a plan closing on its prey with nothing left over.
A fetching-spell carries them off on the wind to the Lotus-Flower Cave, the lair that will govern the rest of the episode, and the demon hails his brother with the news. The reversal that began when Pilgrim was pinned is now complete: the party that set out under Monkey's protection has been delivered whole into the enemy's hands, all but the one still buried.
