逐句解 Line by line
行者縱起觔斗雲,躲離怪處,直奔盱眙山,不一日早到。
行者纵起觔斗云,躲离怪处,直奔盱眙山,不一日早到。
Pilgrim sprang up on his somersault cloud, got clear of the fiend's ground, and made straight for Mount Xuyi; before a day was out he had arrived.
奔 is bèn when a destination follows, as one does here — making for somewhere, rather than simply running. 斗 is dǒu in 觔斗.
One segment for the whole journey, exactly as the flight to Wudang got one. The chapter has settled into a rhythm — a defeat, an errand, a poem about the place arrived at, an interview — and this is the second turn of it.
躲離怪處 is the only word of retreat in the sentence and it is doing quiet work. Monkey is not withdrawing to regroup; he is dodging clear, and the verb concedes that the fiend's ground is somewhere he cannot stay.
