老魔慌了手腳，叫道：「兄弟，不好了，那猴子真是個地裡鬼，那裡請得個主人公來也。」三魔道：「大哥休得悚懼，我們一齊上前，使槍刀搠倒如來，奪他那雷音寶剎。」老魔慌了手脚，叫道：「兄弟，不好了，那猴子真是个地里鬼，那里请得个主人公来也。」三魔道：「大哥休得悚惧，我们一齐上前，使枪刀搠倒如来，夺他那雷音宝刹。」
逐句解 Line by line
The old fiend was thrown into confusion, and cried, "Brothers! This is bad. That monkey really is a local devil — wherever has he fetched a master out of?"
地裡鬼, a ghost of the local ground, means somebody who knows every inch of a place and everyone in it — a fixer. 那 is nǎ, questioning. And 主人公 here is not a hero but a patron: the person whose name you invoke when you are outmatched.
The third fiend said, "Elder brother, do not be frightened. Let us go forward together and knock the Tathagata down with spear and sabre, and take that Thunderclap Monastery of his."
剎 is chà, a monastery — from the Sanskrit kshetra, a field or domain, and nothing to do with the shā of stopping. 搠倒 takes dǎo, the falling reading. 雷音, Thunderclap, is the Buddha's own monastery — the pilgrims' destination.
The old fiend's insult is a compliment and he does not notice. A local devil is a man with connections, and what he is complaining about is that Wukong knows somebody.
That is a fair description of what has just happened. Wukong did not defeat them; he went and got the one person who could, using an old acquaintance and an argument. The demons have been beaten by a favour.
And the third fiend's answer is the moment his cleverness runs out. Faced with the assembled Buddhas he proposes to charge them and seize the Thunderclap Monastery — which is like proposing to solve a police cordon by annexing the capital.
