Grief hardens into war. Setting the useless vase aside, the old fiend arms himself — the Plantain Fan tucked at his nape, the Seven-Star Sword in hand — and calls up a host of three hundred and more, every imp put to spear and staff, rope and blade. The passage is almost entirely kinetic, a scene of bustling mobilization.
The escalation is deliberate. Where the demons had met Wukong singly, now the elder leads his whole force into the field, armored and enraged. The flame-red gauze robe and gleaming mail set the stage for the martial portrait that opens the confrontation, and the muster answers Bajie’s trussed helplessness with the threat of open battle.
