總評 Commentary

The return is handled in three sentences and the geography does the work. He turns the cloud, goes back along the eastward road, sets down beneath the 紅磚壁 — the red brick wall of the farmstead, named by the same colour that saturated its first description.

Eight Rules gets the announcement, doubled in the chapter's habitual cadence: 來了來了. He has done nothing since complaining about the heat, and the novel keeps handing him the welcomes.

Then the whole household comes out — Tripitaka, the old man, Sha Monk together. The turnout measures what was riding on the errand: eight hundred of fire, an impassable road, and a village whose harvests depend on the same object.
