The two of them came up boldly to the gate: “Why — the door's shut!” And they saw, set crosswise above it, a slab of white jade with six great graphs carved upon it: “Wave-Moon Cave of Bowl-Bank Mountain.”
Six characters cut in white jade settle everything the golden light had obscured: 碗子山波月洞, the Wave-Moon Cave of Bowl-Bank Mountain. A cave, not a temple, with its address over the door. The demon is not hiding — he simply had a better advertisement. 閉著 and 鐫著 both end in the unstressed zhe; 那門上 takes nà.
沙僧道：「哥啊，這不是甚麼寺院，是一座妖精洞府也。我師父在這裡，也見不得哩。」

Said Sha Monk, “Brother, this is no temple — it's a demon's cave-mansion. If our master is in here, we may never see him.”
Sha Monk reads the sign and understands it. 妖精洞府 — a demon's cave-mansion — is the correct classification, and he draws the correct conclusion. 甚麼 takes shén; 見不得 takes the unstressed de.
八戒道：「兄弟莫怕。你且拴下馬匹，守著行李，待我問他的信看。」那獃子舉著鈀，上前高叫：「開門！開門！」

Said Bajie, “Don't be afraid, brother. Just tie up the horse, guard the baggage, and let me go ask after him.” The blockhead raised his rake and went forward shouting, “Open up! Open up!”
Bajie's answer to a demon's front door is to bang on it. 守著 and 舉著 both end in the unstressed zhe; 那獃子 takes nà; 鈀 takes pá.

A gate-keeping imp within opened the door, took one look at the pair of them, quickly drew back, and ran inside to report: “Great King, business has come!”
買賣來了 — business has come — is the gatekeeper echoing his master's shopkeeper proverb from a few passages back. The joke has become house style. 那洞內 takes nà.
老妖道：「那裡買賣？」小妖道：「洞門外有一個長嘴大耳的和尚，與一個晦氣色的和尚，來叫門了。」

Said the old fiend, “What business?” Said the imp, “Outside the cave-mouth there's a long-snouted, big-eared monk, and a sallow, luckless-looking monk, come knocking at the door.”
The imp's description of the two disciples is unimprovable: a long-snouted, big-eared monk, and a sallow, unlucky-looking one. 長嘴 takes 長 as cháng, long, not zhǎng, elder. 晦氣色 is the colour of bad luck — a face like a bad omen. 那裡 takes nǎ.
老妖大喜道：「是豬八戒與沙僧尋將來也。噫，他也會尋哩，怎麼就尋到我這門上。既然嘴臉兇頑，卻莫要怠慢了他。」叫：「取披掛來。」小妖擡來就結束了，綽刀在手，徑出門來。
老妖大喜道：「是猪八戒与沙僧寻将来也。噫，他也会寻哩，怎么就寻到我这门上。既然嘴脸凶顽，却莫要怠慢了他。」叫：「取披挂来。」小妖抬来就结束了，绰刀在手，径出门来。
The old fiend rejoiced: “So it's Zhu Bajie and Sha Monk come seeking! Well, well — they know how to track, to come right up to my door. Since their looks are fierce and stubborn, we mustn't take them lightly.” He called, “Bring my armor.” The imps carried it out, he buckled it on, took his sabre in hand, and strode out the gate.
He is delighted rather than alarmed — they know how to track — and calls for his armour out of respect, not fear. 披掛 is a full suit of armour with all its straps. 尋將 takes jiāng.
總評 Commentary
The inscription over the gate settles what the golden light had obscured. This is the Wave-Moon Cave, a demon's lair, named unmistakably in white jade. Sha Monk reads it and understands; Bajie, undeterred, hammers on the door. The scene completes the chapter's long play on true and false appearances — the paradise rhapsody, the golden pagoda, and now the plain stone name telling the truth the pilgrims kept declining to see.
The demon's reaction is the telling note. He is not dismayed that the disciples have found him but pleased — they know how to track — and he arms himself out of respect for their ferocity rather than fear of it. His composure confirms the trap has closed exactly as designed: the whole party is now gathered at the one place he chose to wait.
