總評 Commentary

The marshalling inverts the chapter’s earlier poems. Where the peach-tree rhapsody and the Barefoot Immortal’s encomium sang of timeless attainment, this one is pure mobilization — a roll-call of the entire astral bureaucracy descending in martial array: the Four Kings, the Jiedi, the nine luminaries, the Five-Element and Horary stars, the Twenty-Eight Mansions. The cosmos the 心猿 had treated as a loose brotherhood (俱以弟兄相待) now shows itself as an army; the very hierarchy whose feast he crashed closes around him as a net.

The 詩曰 quatrain compresses the whole chapter into four lines and names its moral arithmetic: 只因攪亂蟠桃會,十萬天兵佈網羅 ("just because he threw the Peach Feast into confusion, a hundred thousand troops now spread their net"). The disproportion — one monkey’s spree against a hundred thousand soldiers — is the point. In the inner-alchemical reading, the mobilized cosmos is the self’s own disordered energies risen against the unstilled mind: the havoc made in seizing the elixir returns as the massed force that must subdue it, the discipline imposed at last from without.
