下回分解 To Be Continued
畢竟不知那大聖投向何方,且聽下分解。毕竟不知那大圣投向何方,且听下分解。

In the end we do not know in what direction the Great Sage turned; and for that you must listen to the explanation that follows.
The chapter closes on a broken formula. The novel's chapters end with the storyteller telling you to come back and hear the next instalment — 且聽下回分解, listen to the next chapter for the explanation — but the 世德堂本 prints 且聽下分解, with the 回 that means chapter simply missing. That is what the 維基文庫 text of this edition gives, and it stands as printed rather than being quietly repaired. The chapter is therefore odd at both ends: it opens on a poem instead of the usual the story tells, and it closes on a formula with a hole in it. 分解 gives 分 as fēn and 解 as jiě.
The chapter ends without resolving anything. Wukong is gone, the pilgrims are three, the Yang household has lost its only son without ever learning how, and the road west is still to be walked. 投向何方 — in what direction did he turn — is a real question, and the answer, in the next chapter, is that he goes to Guanyin, and that something else wearing his face goes to Tripitaka.
The formula itself is defective, and the defect belongs to the 世德堂本: 且聽下分解 with no 回. It is a small thing and most likely a compositor's slip, but it leaves the chapter unclosed in exactly the way its story is unclosed — and the principle of following the edition requires that it stand as printed, with the variant noted rather than tidied away.
