After all, there is no knowing how that Tang Monk and his disciples got out of the city — so listen to the telling in the next chapter.
Pointing 那唐僧: 那 = nà. 且聽下回分解: 分 = fēn — "listen to the exposition in the next installment," the fixed sign-off of every chapter in this kind of novel. It survives from the storyteller's pitch, where breaking off at the interesting moment was how you kept an audience and collected the money.
The stock closing formula of the chaptered novel — a cliff-hanger cue that leaves the pilgrims at the gate of the restored city and hands the reader on to the next installment. The wording is a fossil of live performance: a storyteller who stops at the good bit is a storyteller who will have an audience tomorrow. It also marks a seam in the arc. The Wūjī affair, opened two chapters back and turned on the resurrection and the unmasking here, is essentially complete — the true king restored, the lion reclaimed by Mañjuśrī, the karmic debt closed — and the departure it promises spills over into the next chapter, where the road west resumes and a new ordeal begins.
